Garden Trips: Maymont Flower and Garden Show (Part 3)

What I bought (you know you want to know! I'm just kidding with you...but don't you wonder what your friends buy???)........:

IMG_2532 purchases

Burr Nelly Isler "Swiss Beauty'

Dendrochilum glumaceum 'Virginia'

(scroll way down the page to an October 11, 2005 entry)

Tiarella "Heronswood Mist'

Helleborus x hybridus 'Metallic Blue Lady'
(scroll down to find this particular one)

Lillium OT Hybrid 'Honeymoon'

Lillium OT Hybrid ' Conco Dor' perhaps Conca d'Or'

I have had numerous lilies not be what I purchased them to be and I am not encouraged that the second one appears to have the name incorrect (google corrected it); however, for $1.49 ea...I'll take a chance...

***I am not affiliated with any of these sites. I simply googled the name(s) to try to find an image and a description.

  1. Thanks for sharing all of these great pictures, GG! I love that you took a picture of the paving--isn't it amazing that they pave entire gardens and walkways and then take it apart a week or so later?

I bought a couple of things at the Cleveland Home & Garden show, too. Like you said, I couldn't resist canna tubers, lily tubers, etc., at prices like $1.49 to $2.49 each. Actually, I bought 'Wyoming,' 'Red Dazzler,' 'King Humbert,' Ingeborg,' and 'Black Knight' cannas, 'Espresso' gladiolus, 'Bright Star' lilum, and 'Superstition' iris. I am wondering if all will turn out to be what they say, or if I'll be a victim of open-bin-mixing.

  2. (And you said I wasn't too wordy--I can't even leave a short comment! lol.)

  3. Oh, good haul, blackwamp_girl! If I couldn't come home with something, I'd surely feel incomplete...lol! I think I have two of your cannas (very nice) and the iris (a very dark purple?)(also very nice)...see, great minds think alike...lol! Yes, it is only too true, I'm afraid about the bin mixups. Worse, though, once I got what I thought was a spider bite from my poking around in one (that'll teach me...or maybe not!).

You're always entertaining and very welcome...and there are no word limits...that's why we blog, lol!

  4. Yes indeed on the iris--that was my BF's pick, but I liked it, too. Which two of the cannas do you have? I haven't grown them before and if there are two that are particularly nice I may put them in a "feature" pot by my side door.

(Spider mite bite... yikes! And thoughts of a word limit... double yikes! lol.)

  5. I hope I have Wyoming and King Humbert. I say hope because I leave some out to overwinter and I might have been caught this year. I hope not! I do have some in pots in the basement (that have refused to go dormant this year...sigh). I think the leaves on Tropicanna are really striking.

Anyway, I enjoy them (once the Japanese beetles leave them alone)...and I appreciate that they put up with my neglect!

Gotta Comment? Great! Thanks in advance for taking the time. I'll get back to you as soon as possible, assuming I'm not in the garden...because there, I lose all track of time...(Don't you?)...Take care now.
