Sorry, I've been a bit out of pocket...but, I have some neat things to share with you...when I get a chance to work on them! This week is Historic Garden Week in Virginia and for those you not able to attend a day or more, I'll show you where we went.
In the meantime, here are just a few pictures from my garden. Things are starting to happen quickly and...I don't know about you...I'm a bit overwhelmed! Sadly, I had to uncover these iris from the chickweed just to see them! My first bud on the tall bearded is up...I know this because I could see it just peeking over the chickweed! So, you know what I need to do...and where I'll be...
Open Sky, actually a light blue
Cornhusker Autumn
Pumpin' Iron
ffo on Ornament...not quite open before I had to leave...
Dutch Iris...more purple than this picture conveys
I couldn't help myself! My trillium actually has three flowers this year!
Okay, I'll get back to you later! Hope the weather is great where you are and that you're able to be out in your garden. I'll be at the Mary Washington House, but hopefully, later, I'll be...pulling chickweed!
What fun little iris, Gotta Garden! I used to grow the Dwarf standards, and loved their early bloom and great colors... that Cornhusker is especially cute.
ReplyDeleteAnnie
The squirrels got all of the miniature iris that I planted last fall. Yours look great. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOooh... trilliums. :) I like that 'Pumpin' Iron' iris. I don't think that I've ever seed one quite that color before!
ReplyDeleteInteresting expression ..."out of pocket" never heard it before. Aren't the chickweed just really lush this year? Too bad you can't eat them.
ReplyDeleteReally wonderful collection of irises. You are certainly way ahead of us in the season as I only see leaves just poking up through the ground now.
'Pumpin' Iron' is fabulous! I'll have to look for that one!
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, I agree, I am feeling overwhelmed. Everything is happening very quickly in the garden and I am so busy I know I will miss something :-) But it is my favourite time of year! Great blog, thank you for sharing and I would like to visit again :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Dutch Iris is so pretty as is Open Sky. Well, they all are beautiful. I wish I could attend Historic Garden Week with you - it would be a wonderful treat.
ReplyDeleteAnd with chickweed, isn't it a sign of a healthy, vibrant garden? With beautiful flowers to look at, chickweed just fades into the background ...
The trillium is so pretty as are your garden signs! I've missed reading your blog...
Thankyou for the Irises. I used to have lots of them in my garden in New Zealand, & roses & bulbs. Now we live in Australia, my thumbs have turned brown, & I miss my lovely garden.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it seem everything is alive suddenly? It's downright overwhelming! But welcome, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those colors. I'll be back to see more!
The Dutch Iris is just beautiful! They are all lovely, but I *love* the blue-purple color! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annie! They've been very carefree, so far...and I like that!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, OldRoses...grrrr on squirrels! They used to dig around mine (not currently...as they are protected...cough...by chickweed)...but not too bad as the cats guard the garden.
Hi BS_G: Thanks! It is a bold color, especially compared to the others.
Oh Ki...my DH told me I had used it incorrectly (but commonly) and so I looked on dictionary.com...and it looked like he was right (drat!)...but then I got the brilliant idea to check thesaurus.com...and YES!...the very first entry was "away"...as well as others I liked!
I think I actually saw on the daylily robin that you can eat chickweed...someone had posted a chickweed pie recipe or something! In that case, I can probably feed a small country...
Things are starting to move fast. Today I found the ffo open on the small crested iris (Iris Cristata),
Hi Kylee...I either got it from Frank's (out of business around here) or Walmart a few years ago...so hopefully, not hard to find. Check with me in fall...I'd be happy to share some. (You, too, BS-G)
Hi Chris: Thanks! I hope you will...I'm usually better about posting...although, having said that, I'm not sure what this week will hold. We're having a house guest...and if my garden is a mess, you should see my house! I'm glad you found me!
Oh Kate, you are so sweet! Yes, I wish you could have come for the tour...you would have enjoyed the group!
I suspect it is just the opposite re: the chickweed! Good news, though...it is starting to fade a bit as it is an annual weed...but I know it is going to leave me billions of seeds...
I found this website...it almost sounds nice...if it weren't such a WEED!! http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/chickwed.htm
That is so nice...to be missed! Thank you!
Hi Meggie: I don't believe in brown thumbs...do you, really? I once visited in New Zealand and saw the most incredible roses, so I can just imagine how lovely your garden was. I hope your new garden improves for you. Take care.
Hi Mary...oh, I hope so! I enjoy hearing from you! Yes, I go outside to do one thing and ten other things call to me...so, I go here and there, feeling like I've accomplished almost nothing!
Thanks, Michelle! They bring a lot of pleasure...and where they are, they are the only things blooming, so they really stand out!
Thank you all for your comments! I really appreciate them! I will be visiting your blogs, too!
