...in macro:
What a joy a macro lens is! And, to think, I have just today discovered it. Last May, when my DH insisted I should have a new camera to take to the AHS National Convention, I purchased three lenses (also). The one I have used since buying it has been an all purpose general 30mm lens. I also bought the macro used above and a zoom lens (with image stabilizer).
I don't know why I haven't used the others. I suspect I was a bit afraid of them and thought I needed to learn a bunch of stuff (which I surely do). However, I couldn't capture the snowdrop with the 30mm and so, on a whim, got out the macro. Who knew the auto focus function also works with it! Whoopee! Now, I'm wondering why I didn't use this in Houston!
I can hardly wait for some of my special snowdrops to bloom! What fun it will be to see them so perfectly up close!
Just for fun, I trained the macro on some self-seeded Johnny Jump Ups (violas)....as an aside, about time I have some of these! After years of planting them, at last, they are returning. It looks like a packet of seeds was spilled in one area...lots of little plants....anyway, they are a bit weather worn, but here they are:
Finally, I noticed some of the hellebores are starting to bloom. I actually had to back up to take this picture (what a lot I have to learn):
I see you had a great time with your Macro lens. ahhh! Wish I had such a great camera. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteBTW, Strange that you posted this blogpost today and it doesn't update on my blog list. It still shows your previous post a week ago....
ReplyDeleteThose are great shots! And isn't fun to learn something new about your camera? I did the same thing with my little digital - a year later I discovered settings I didn't know I had. I think we have to "ease" into these things.
ReplyDeleteYou have flowers, how exciting! My yard is dead and dry, not even any snow to make it look pretty.
Lovely shots. I also love using the macro setting on my camera. It's why I got my new camera last year.

There's nothing better than a good macro lens for capturing those flowers close up. It's even more fun in your garden in spring.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading some of your older posts now (not 'old'; from January!). I, too, am just learning about all the features of my camera. I got it for my birthday a year ago, and have NEVER looked at the owners manual. Don't know why...I just dislike reading directions for some reason:)
ReplyDeleteMy next birthday will be in March--and, hubby got me a macro lens. It was supposed to be a surprise, but
Fed Ex came to the door recently & I answered the door, and opened the box...well, you can guess the rest! I have only taken one or 2 photos with it. I need to get outside and use it in the garden-
I must tell you that it was just now that I realized you had already been to my blog and left a message, on the 'Remember' poem that I'd written. I had no idea you had a college age daughter. I guess I wasn't paying enough attention; I feel overwhelmed with comments and trying to get back with everyone. My daughter is at CNU; she chose it over 4 other schools and I wasn't sure about it at first-but she loves it there. She's majoring in Psych. and will stay for the 5th year masters in teaching.
Well, that's enough personal info on a comment...sorry for the length of this. Have a great day 'in your garden'! Jan
My hellebores are the same color as yours:) Last week there were no blooms. I need to go out and check today. Perhaps you have a micro climate that I don't have...
