I'm hip dip (more like up to my eyeballs) in sorting pictures. An enjoyable task, just one that seems never ending. I know, I know...I shouldn't take so many pictures...but that would be like not breathing. I finally finished one day...yes, one day (July 9, 2008)...and discovered...amazingly...that I did take a few pictures of things besides daylilies. Let's face it...when the daylilies bloom, it's pretty hard to compete. Among the five hundred or so pictures I took that day were these...
Lots of phlox were blooming...I have some 17 varieties and they have delightfully hybridized themselves so that I have seedlings popping up here and there...some really very pretty, I think...
This is a well known phlox 'David' (the white one) with seedlings...it's hard to tell from this picture, but they are all different. This is what happens when you don't deadhead! I keep meaning to move the seedlings out...one of these years, I will...
Another view...I don't often show views of my garden...the white phlox are all seedlings...I really should get in there and move all the seedlings...hmmn, a project for this year...just that one has to wait until they bloom to separate them out of the clump...
One of the two remaining Rose of Sharons...this one is called Blue Bird....the variegated foliage belongs to a weigela...
My very favorite hardy geranium...Rozanne...
In person, this area is rather untidy, but all these months later...in this photo...it's not so bad (maybe that's what winter will do to you)...
You knew I would find a way to get some daylilies into a non-daylily post, didn't you?
It looks like July 7th was a good day in the garden, but then most days are. Even days like today...real time...when I'm able to be outside and weed a bit. Spreading some Leafgro around felt good, smelled good and reminded me that there are more good days ahead.
Days we can all enjoy....like Leo...relaxing last July 7th...
Ah, sorting photos....what a job! And I can relate to taking too many :) It's wonderful to see your beautiful gardens. A little taste of spring and summer. Lovely! Thank you. It's such a tonic to see all that color during these black and white days of winter.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of all the flowers and the gate- just beautiful. Two years ago, I made a promise to myself that I was going to be a good girl and when I take my pics, I run in, pop the sd card in my computer, name and file them in the right folder. Then at the end of the year I take all the year's photos and put them on disk for a backup. I leave the previous years on my computer, but every year before that is put on disk and removed to my computer. I keep all my photos in a hard case (and usually have them on 2 disks- just in case)
ReplyDeleteI've been pretty good with this so far, but then I don't have an SLR camera and terrific zoom lens yet!!!
I know it's hard to keep your finger off the click button! And thanks to that, as I was treated with so many lovely shots b'coz of that! Thank you so much. Phlox looks great - I've always wanted one.
ReplyDeleteHi Kerri....that's so true...winter is black and white...maybe that's so we appreciate spring all the more. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHello Tessa...you sound very organized! I wish. I do keep all my photos on an external hard drive and I've set up folders...I just have to get everything into the proper folders. When I want pictures of say...a particular daylily...I want all of them right now! Eventually, I will get there. Then, I'll need to go back and delete the pictures that no longer please me. Sigh.
Chandramouli, you are so right! It is too easy and I always fear that maybe the first one wasn't just right...so I take multiples! I do love it, though.
Thanks so much all of you for stopping by! I appreciate it!
I've been having a great time sorting photos, too. This is a great post. Gives a good taste of your garden! :-) The daylily I was wondering about is the one beside your name at the top of your blog. There are so many varieties of daylilies!!! I have a few that I cannot identify because I've lost their tags. Yipes. :-(
ReplyDeleteHello Shady Gardener: I think you are referring to Song in my Heart. It can be difficult to identify daylilies, especially from pictures. Different cameras, different weather, soil, etc. make it all hard. I would guess we're probably pushing 70k registrations now...however, many of those are no longer readily available, I would think.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a list of your daylilies (do you keep a spreadsheet?), then it would be much easier to figure out who the lost label ones are. Or, if you remember who you purchased them from, they might be able to help you.
Drawing a map also helps. It really saved me with some of my earlier planted daffodils (there's a learning curve on labels, too).
Good luck!
