Hellebores and Happy Crocus

Still working on capturing the hellebores...

Here are the two seedlings I showed the other day...now we can take a little look inside...

The one above is a little more green in person.

My pride and joy double pink...from the 'old' Heronswood and my one visit out there...

I really have to get a better picture of it...especially when it covers itself with blooms. I keep adding doubles (small plants) and so far, I haven't had much result from the them. It can take hellebores a while...plus, my learning curve...I did learn more last year about how to grow some of these very small starts of hellebores we usually get sent...from a very helpful vendor on Dave's...

This one is not quite so red...just caught the light coming through it...

This white one had a hard winter, but it is pouring out the blooms...it's still struggling out of winter, so there's some damage...

I had been wondering where this iris was...yearly, I have a nice little group of them....at last, it shows itself...and we see the problem(s)...the creeping phlox and the sedum have taken overtaken it...

These crocus remind me of a chorus singing...

Here, a few 'singers' stand out...

There weren't planted by me (below), but it does make you wonder...

It's kinda fun finding them popping up here and there. Could be all kinds of 'help' at work.

Tiny nivalis...

The weather was wonderful yesterday. I took some advantage and got a few things done. Among them...don't laugh...some lingering daffodils still in the garage. We shall see what they do...better than a total loss, I hope.

(Laughing to myself) I think I take some of these same pictures every year. I never tire of them...each spring, I so look forward to everything...changes, some new additions, but often the comforting reassurance of the sameness. I like faithfulness.

Beautiful shots! I love the red hellebores. I agree...crocuses do remind one of a singing chorus. Lovely collection of cool hues.

As I scrolled through your photos, the word that came to my mind was "lush." All is well over there!

My hellebore leaves were just pruned, so they're looking a little bare right now. But there's Growth! :-)

Perhaps after the forecast weather this weekend, Spring will be settling in. (I hope so!)

Have a great day!

I must be the only gardener who has trouble growing crocus, yours are lovely, and so is that not quite so red hellebore.

Great photos as usual! In Philadelphia, got the first daffodil yesterday, but I'm still posting best of last year's daylilies at http://todaylily.blogspot.com because, like you I started dabbing pollen last summer and there just wasn't time for blogging. Don't stop posting photos just because you're running out of room- start a new blog like gottagarden2 and we'll follow! Terry Oates, President Garden State Daylily Growers (NJ).

I have to say I have a very bad case of 'hellebore fever' right now as ours are about to open... your wonderful photos haven't helped me get over the excitement one bit! Great photos! Larry

Katie, your Hellebores are looking gorgeous. Wonderful photographs ~ love the centre details. Crocus blooms are so lovely. You have beautifully-established clumps. It looks as if the neighbourhood squirrels have been occupied with moving the bulbs around. I once saw some of my crocus bulbs growing across the street from where I'd planted them. I kind of like the way they distribute them.

Happy spring!
