Elizabethan Gardens...circa 2004

Snowy weather reminds me that there's nothing like a garden tour to take our minds off of winter. Let's have a look at the beautiful Elizabethan Gardens as I saw them/it in August 0f 2004.

Also, these photos were taken with an Olympus that I used two cameras ago. Still, I had to do hardly any cropping which I attribute to this garden. Stunning views everywhere requiring nothing of the photographer. Cameras love it. These images are old and I did notice some color degradation. Something I hadn't expected...or maybe it was there all along? Who knows. That's what happens when you get...umm...some almost six years behind in your photos...

So, without further hesitation....here we go:

Approaching the entrance (above)....looking to the right (below)

Let's get closer....it's interesting.

Inside...

This garden is perfectly manicured with wonderful edging and borders...

Always on the alert for daylilies, I especially liked the name of this one. Looks like a tuberose is joining in on the fun...do note that it is Daylily (one word), though...

An angel wing begonia...the label says it is a Green Angel Wing Begonia...

Doesn't this just take your breath away?

Don't you love the wide paths filled with pine needles and the edging that defines and shapes? (Of course, you do.)

A lovely (rated G) statute...

....destinations that call you...

Perfect placement....

...we need to continue on...

Some natural views upcoming that will have you sighing...but first we pause for this message...

One of my very favorite views...I once used it on a Wordless Wednesday (back in the day when I had time for those things...lol)..

Quite a tree....

Clever tag...

A little getaway tucked in here...

What do we see ahead?

Beautiful pots....

Approaching an incredible Knot Garden...

...filled with statuary...

Awesome...a long look back...

My fascination with moss goes way back...

...not the best picture...a dragonfly, glistening in the sunlight...

We're in a shady area....a nice place to rest...

...peaceful...

Elephant Ears...

More of that edging I liked...

I think the end is near...boohoo...

A clever little grass...

This is it...

If you're ever in the Outer Banks area, you definitely want to make time to visit here. A nice gift shop and there are plants for sale...neat things....although most of what I bought there was not happy as far north as I am...who can resist a bit of zone pushing...

Well, I'm feeling much more relaxed after this little visit...especially with more snow predicted for today...I'll think of more pleasant things....like a return trip here with my current camera (wouldn't that be great...hint, hint dh....ha)...to see what has changed...or not.

GORGEOUS!!!!!!
I love this garden, some of these ideas I am atttempting in my own garden, the long views, the geometric beds, rooting box so I can have my own hedges. Thank you for all the ideas. Now where can I get some statues!

What a variety of garden areas. Some of them so geometric (which I enjoy visiting, but not creating), some so relaxed... love that little spot with the bench! How long did it take to tour this site? Thanks for sharing.
