A Few of Today's Beauties....

These seedlings caught my eye today....

You can see it's pretty tall (sorry this picture is not the best...it's in a difficult-to-get-to location) and the bloom is large:

When I saw this one this morning, I was so pleased:

It looks very feminine to me...wonder how it will improve/change next year! Here those two are together:

I almost let today get by without seeing this one (imagine):

Just a little taste of what today brought....my battery has run down (oh no) on my camera in the middle of downloading hundreds of pictures (my usual)...unfortunately, I think the charger is in the car my DH has at work...so, I'll have to wait to finish. This weekend, we were in Richmond for the Region 3 Meeting. I spent Sat. touring five Richmond area gardens (pictures!) that I hope to share in the near future....as well as giving my brief of the whole weekend experience. It was fun! Not to worry, I haven't forgotten the seven remaining gardens from the national convention. So much to do...so little time....

More Seedling(s) Fun

So.....we'll swing into action with these:

Haha (I do amuse myself)...

These are today's seedlings (every day there are new ones and ones that may repeat...it's very fascinating) for your perusal:

It is so fun to go out each morning! I spend hours (truly) looking at the daylilies, taking their pictures (some better than others) and then trying (and not succeeding) to organize all that data. Oh well....

*****

While out among the daylilies, I saw a few pea pods. You might remember that I planted two varieties of peas on whim earlier this spring. I wish I had planted many more as they are so tasty! I think of them as nature's candy. Unfortunately, they climb on anything but their trellis (like weeds, parsley, daylilies...) for some strange reason. It was a very nice scene (for me) to be enjoying the daylilies and eating fresh peas. Too bad that there are so few pea pods (I want more!)....note to self: plant more next year!

Hungry?? Here's What I'm Serving.....

....for dinner...lol...daylily seedlings:

Not really, of course. My DH will have a fine meal tonight for Father's Day. However, these are today's offering of seedlings plucked from the garden around 6:00 pm. This is the largest amount I've ever had (so far) open on a single day. This is nothing compared to what real hybridizers (or the big boys/girls who seriously do this) have...but, for me, it was a pretty good day!

Let's look closer at these trays. The one on the left:

The one on the right:

Let's look at just a few of these:

This one was open perfectly at 7:00 am and was still beautiful at 6:00 pm:

Here is the same seedling in the evening with a registered daylily, Sheer Excitement:

Just in case you couldn't tell, my seedling is on the right. I'm pretty proud of it!

It's such a thrill to wake up in the morning and race outside to see what's going on with the seedlings! Not that I don't also love my registered daylilies (and spend hours taking pictures of them...I'll try to get to some more of them tomorrow), but there's something very special about seeing a daylily bloom that is entirely new...and that no one else has seen (except you all...now).

Tomorrow is another day (hmmm, someone else said that...wasn't it Scarlet O'Hara??)...

Seedlngs for Today 061208

Where did the day go?? Today was a good day in the seedling bed. I found four that I think show promise.

Here's today's 'class' photo. You may recognize the spidery/ufo one from the other day. This is its second bloom. The two whitish ones are from two different scapes on the same daylily seedling. It was my first seedling to bloom last year. I'm still rather pleased with it!. All the others are very first blooms and all are shown inside after a long hot day outside.

Just for comparison, here's the same group picture without a flash:

The four seedlings pictured at the top are the three in a vertical line on the far right side and the one on the bottom left. No time right now to show some blooms from today's registered daylilies. I'll get to them!
