What's Up? Or, Is the Heat Keeping You in, too?

Having finished Harry Potter (what? haven't you?), I can now resume my muggle lifestyle. It's been raging hot of late and it's just more pleasant to be inside. I have found time to do some bidding on the Lily Auction, however. I've managed to snag Bella Sera to replace the one that died on me (no, I am NOT looking at the current offerings going for less than I paid...) and some exciting seed crosses. I don't usually wish time away, but I am looking forward to cooler temps to do some arranging and rearranging in the garden. Newsletters have brought word of upcoming plant auctions and I always enjoy those.

By my calculations, some 11 boxes of daylilies have left here in the last week or so. I'm happy to report that most arrived at their destinations without incident (one had some problems). It pleases me to think that others will get enjoyment out of them. As I've been saying for quite a while, I have way too many and since my yard isn't getting any bigger... There are two upcoming club plant sales (one this month, one next) and I've made a list of what I will donate for those. With those donations and another few boxes to my sister (more on that in a minute), I think I will have winnowed the collection down to....are you ready for this....have your guesses on the tip of your tongue....a mere 600 or so! I know, I know....but, doggone, it's just so fun to buy them!

If it isn't too self serving, I'd like to tell you a bit about the daylilies that went to my sister. They're not for her. She is giving them as a gift (along with some of hers) to a women's workgroup at a prison. Their garden is mostly composed of donations and I learned today that no one has ever given them registered daylilies. Imagine that. Well, there are more I can spare. They've given me immense pleasure, helped me through my own tough times (nothing like theirs, I'm sure), and taught me many lessons. It's a tiny thing for me to do, but I am wearing a smile thinking/hoping that maybe someone else will have their life brightened just a little...maybe even changed for the can hope, right.

So, that's a little of what I've been up to. I have scores of pictures (just wait!)...on the other sort through. The tuberoses are blooming! The tomatoes are starting to ripen (not fast enough and not enough!)! Don't you just love summer! (If you don't have some tuberoses, you gotta get some...divine fragrance!)

I thought it was great, btw...Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows....they do have magical plants, after all.

Hi Gotta Garden,

Good luck with the Kitty Wells proliferation [what an interesting term] - I hope you get more of that beautiful daylily.

Too bad about no lemons - we have a few in development, but our tree spent a shorter time inside for the winter - maybe that helps?

Hi Annie: Me, too...thanks! Well...I hate to admit it, but perhaps watering it at least every once in a while might help (in my basement!) was a sad, sad thing. Totally my fault, I think...I'll try to be better this winter, as there's nothing like lemon blossoms (unless it's orange blossoms...of which I have none)! It did bloom, by the way, but I think the three leaves it had at that time just couldn't handle all the work!
