African Violets

On a more cheery note, I happened in here (here being the room where my computer is...vs the one the whole family uses...and where my houseplants...for the most part....endure...err, I mean live!)...and to my surprise and pleasure, some of the African Violets are in bloom:

Now, isn't that nice. I can't take any credit, however, because I am a neglectful houseplant person. I keep meaning to cut them down to just the African Violets and Orchids because they best seem to appreciate my...lack...of attention. I'm thinking maybe that's the secret to African Violets...ignore them...and look what you get!

Some plants thrive on being ignored most of the time. African Violets and Orchids both fall into that category. ;-) I can't have African Violets as my Maine Coon Vita chews of all the flowers first and then pull the leaves out one by one. But I have bought something to stop her from doing that. I'll show you soon on my blog. ;-)

Hi – this is an invitation to join the Garden Bloggers Retro carnival. I don’t know if you’ve ever come across the concept of a Blog carnival – if not I’ve explained it in detail on my site (Oct 1). But basically the idea is to revive one of your old posts which you think is worth rereading, or which you think new readers might enjoy. Send me the link to the post, and in November I’ll publish a series of posts describing and linking to all the posts people have nominated.
I hope you’ll join in and we have a fun carnival!

Sue

PS. I hope this isn’t the second time I’ve invited you - I’m losing track of who I have and haven’t yet contacted. If so, sorry.

LOVE your violets! Especially the one with pink variegation in the foliage-nice! I find neglect to be kindness with rex begonias as well, and this is hard for me (I rot cacti ;-), but I'm slowly coming around.

I have never had success with African violets. I tried growing them on the window sill in the bathroom, as someone advised the steam would be good for them...but, no, they still died :(

Your African Violets are thriving. I've always liked them, but don't grow them well.

Fascinating! I've always wanted to try African Violets but I had heard they were fiddly and I have an odd inability to succesfully grow indoor plants. Maybe I should try again! ~A :-)
