Garden Trips: An AHS Display Garden In Maryland

You couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to host an open garden than last Saturday. Of course, the garden itself was perfect, so the weather was just an added bonus. Because it's the internet, I'm just going to call it F's garden...but what a garden it is! Come along with me as we see a home garden with over 1000 AHS registered daylilies on display.

As I walked along the sidewalk, following the line of parked cars, I saw the garden ahead. The Japanese Maple surrounded by daylilies was just a taste of what was waiting to be discovered.

Most of the garden is behind the home and here's what I saw walking down the driveway, approaching the garden.

While I took hundreds of daylily photos, there was so much more to this garden than just daylilies. Water features, whimsy, sun loving and shade preferring perennials all joined in the show.

There were delights for the eye everywhere.

Tucked among the daylilies, just waiting to be found, were these tiny sedums.

You knew this garden would have a pond:

And an adorable garden shed:

Shade areas (Do you see the gnome?):

Animals:

Here's my view as I sat perched on a bench in a shady spot:

Some more views...it's a big garden:

For you non-daylily folks (you know it's just a matter of time...):

Oh...and did I mention...there were no weeds!!! Impressive, huh. So, for those of you who can't imagine how to fit in a few more daylilies, I hope this little tour has given you some new ideas.

I can't imagine not being able to fit in more daylilies. Unfortunately, my other plants are taking a back seat and I am thinning some way down to make room. Poor things, if they would only perform as well as the daylilies do they could be my favorite.

This must have been a wonderful day. The garden seems to stretch on forever. I am becoming a daylily fan, even if I have only one in my garden. There's definitely room! With so many daylilies, I was checking to see if there were tags ... when I clicked on some of the pics, I saw some, or at least I think I did.

Enjoy your weekend in PA - looking forward to hearing all about it!!

What a stunning garden! And I had to make a copy of the garden shed so I could remember how it looks. I have a similar shed that needs a major transformation, and that one is SO CUTE! Meanwhile, on the daylily front, I have a question for you, looking for some good recommendations. Can you e-mail me? Thanks! ~A :-)

Hi Marie: Ah well, I am a bit over extended in the daylily area, but I have plans! I'm watching closely to see who might not make the grade. I swear they know! And then put on a great show! Decisions, decisions. I am having to face the fact that I have more shade than I used to...and some of the daylilies are suffering in it...It'll work out, though...it always does.

Hi Kate: It was! I have hundreds of pictures from her garden...lots of individual daylily ones. I just thought I'd give an overview...as you know I could go on and on! AHS Display Gardens require that all be labeled.

Thanks...I'm going to try to get to it this week!

Hi Angela...Sorry to not see this sooner...I'm off to email you...Good luck with your shed transformation!

Hi Nikki...thanks and you're welcome!
