Daylilies 060607

Here are today's finds...it's still early and these daylilies will only get better:

Inky Fingers:

Moonlit Masquerade:

Painting the Roses Red:

Appsian Rhapsody, having a little trouble opening...but look at that color...and no thrip damage:

This is the second bloom on Carolyn Hunt...can you see the improvement from yesterday?

I suppose I should have/could have waited to post yesterday's Carolyn Hunt picture...but my excitement kicks in...they just get better and better! Today there were two fancy ones that opened, but neither bloom was what it should be...yet...I'll get a decent picture, it's just hard to be patient.

The Lilies (Lilium) are starting...the Asiatic and/or LA ones...Here's one and I'll try to get the other two I noticed tomorrow:

I think this is the first year that the Madonna Lilies weren't the first...hmmm, I'll have to go have a look tomorrow.

Here's Dianthus 'Siberian Blues' that I grew from seed several years ago. They are a very nice lavender color which goes well with either pink or yellow flowers. I like them so much that I purchased more seeds this year. This has been a very reliable variety for me.

Red Hot Pokers (Kniphofia uvaria)...blooming and trying to fight off Weigela 'Wine and Roses'...

To close...I thought I might be infamous as the only person to actually kill False Indigo (Baptisia australis)...a long lived plant....however, it should be commended (I think) for its efforts to survive...Do you see it?? It is coming up in the center of the Weigela...

Yes, the Weigela is a very pretty shrub in bloom...it also grows and grows...and is the process, now, of being cut back (too late for the False Indigo...I hope it makes for a nice combination!)

Your day lilies are just great! We bought the red-hot poker plant this year. It was so weird looking, like a small pineapple that we had to have one. :)

Nice! I sure wish my 'Wine and Roses' grew that well...time to move it, I think!

I've been reading your blog for a month or so and I just want to say I love your photos! You must be an expert with this digital photo thing, but keep 'em coming; they are great! I also like your practical, everyday gardener approach. You now have another faithful reader!

I can't wait to see it, Ki! Unusual things are fun! Thanks re the daylilies...I am actually up early from now through August...lol!

Thanks, Mary...parts of it...lol!

I don't know, Lisa...I really don't like chopping it apart, but since there are lots of things around it, it will just have to give up some of the space it is taking! It was such a small thing, once upon a time...

Hi Bev! Don't you make my day! Thank you! I am truly not...just use the auto setting and hope for the best (that and taking lots of pictures!)...

Thank you all for your comments!

Your faithfulness to accurate identification inspires me to be more assiduous in my garden and on my blog. Thanks, Katie! A beautiful garden blog!

I like that dianthus 'Siberian Blues'! And all your daylilies (and the photos) are great! Where do you get your daylily seeds? You've inspired me to try to grow some from seed.
