Daylilies...fresh from the post office

The daylilies are arriving. This year I've been much more disciplined and only have around 40 new ones coming. For those that haven't ordered daylilies before, here's a sample of what they look like:

This one (above) I had the labels all ready for...the one on the bottom is a bonus plant I gave to a neighbor.

Even though the ones above don't look as green, they should do fine. Daylilies are very tough. I would guess these have been out of the ground considerably longer than the others. I see I had labels ready for these as well...a good idea, by the way.

These are all sellers I've ordered from before and have been happy with.

I think two of these sellers I had purchased from before...one was new. Everything looked pretty good.

Since these pictures, I think I've maybe received two more orders. One was from a seller new to me and as I lifted the plants out, I was amazed at how large the fans were...until I got to the bottom and there was a tiny little one. I'm waiting to hear what the explanation is...sometimes things happen beyond the seller/grower's control and I am willing to hear what they have to say. It is pretty small, though. I had decided (more of my famous last words) that this year I wouldn't accept tiny ones as they tend to take much longer to reach blooming size and sometimes the stress of traveling, etc. makes them vulnerable to things that otherwise wouldn't bother a daylily (because it is stronger and healthier...like most plants).

Anyway, I thought it might be interesting to some of you to give you an idea of what to expect.

One of these days, I'll write about the Lily Auction....

40? How many do you get when yo don't control yourself!? How much land do you have planted in daylilies?

Lol! Well, last year I probably had something like 1oo+ coming...it's very easy on the Lily Auction, I'm afraid. I wish I could find the picture of my front door with all the boxes!

The only reason I knew it was around 40 was I listed what I had coming on a forum and I counted...lol!

Not much at all, sadly. Everything is crammed in here. This is not a garden of beauty, but it is interesting to me...and that's what matters. If I had more land, I could really get into seedlings (more than I do)...maybe one day...

I live in suburbia on a 1/4 acre with neighbors all around. There's only one area that's relatively flat and that's in a portion of the front yard. Still, it doesn't stop me...I stand on my slope(s)and plant away...once I actually did roll down to the bottom...lol!

It's inspiring to think you grow that many daylilies on 1/4 acre in the suburbs!
