This is your amaryllis? How do you get it to bloom? I have one that has produced nothing but sad-looking foliage for 3 years...I'm about ready to give up!

Don't give up! I put them out for the summer (in planter boxes) and let them just grow. They're supposed to be heavy feeders and given that they only have the box, I put in some of those houseplant spikes as well (Miracle Grow, I think). Then, I drag them inside to the basement where they are promptly forgotten. They seem to like it, for some strange reason. A couple of the bulbs are even producing offsets.

So, the point is...if I can neglect them, you can, too!

I know they grow year round in warm climes, but that isn't an option here. They are forced to go dormant, but they don't seem to mind.

I took another picture as three of the four buds are now open!

Thanks for coming by...and I hope that helps!

What a lovely example of a hippeastrum, I will keep my eyes open and look if I can discover this type here in Germany.

Hi sisah! Thanks! I'm betting you can find it as I ordered it from Brent and Becky's Bulbs a couple years ago. Most of their stuff, I think, comes from the Netherlands. B&B seem(s) to have a better selection in fall.

I'm glad you came by!
